SLD Read Next Generation Fund
The SLD Read Endowment Fund was created to help individuals in becoming strong readers and to empower educators to become the best teachers possible. An investment in the SLD Read Next Generation Fund is for donors who want to make a long-term investment in SLD Read’s work and mission by empowering our next generations to succeed.

You can also get involved by donating your time as a tutor or at an SLD Read event!
Volunteer as a Tutor
Volunteer Tutors work with SLD Read students through our traditional tutoring program (see Tutor for SLD Read) or through our community supported Language Links program. Tutors provide a valuable service by donating their time to help those struggling with dyslexia or other literacy challenges in their communities in West Michigan.
Language Links is a community funded partnership between SLD Read and a school community. Volunteers are trained and supported to provide individualized, one-to-one multi-sensory instruction in reading, writing and spelling for at-risk readers in first, second and third grades. Current programs support schools in Kalamazoo, Portage, Grand Rapids, Wyoming, Big Rapids Public Schools and Crossroads Charter Academy in Big Rapids.

Tutoring is the backbone of the SLD Read mission. We currently have over 140 tutors in 18 West Michigan counties and requests for our services are increasing every day. If you are interested in part-time employment and want to make reading possible, consider becoming an SLD Read Tutor!
Phonics Fundamentals© for Tutors is the base of our training options and is a beginning level training course in the Orton-Gillingham approach. Phonics Fundamentals© for Tutors is offered at both of our office locations multiple times throughout the year. Enrollment in the training course requires an interview and is dependent upon course availability.

Potential tutors for SLD Read have a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent), background clearance through the Michigan State Police and Department of Human Services, and have successfully completed SLD Read’s Phonics Fundamentals © training course.
