Become a Tutor -
SLD Read’s tutors provide those with learning disabilities, such as dyslexia and other word-related disabilities, with individualized, one-to-one multi-sensory instruction in reading, writing and spelling. Please email Christine Gavin at cgavin@sldread.org, call, or fill out the form below, to schedule an interview and learn more about our volunteer and part-time tutoring opportunities.
Tutor Qualifications
- Obtain background clearance through the Michigan State Police and Department of Human Services
- Complete SLD Read's Phonics Fundamentals© tutor training
- Complete an internship with an SLD Read master tutor
- Participate in additional trainings, required monthly in-service meetings, webinars and local/ virtual professional conferences
Tutor Trainings
Phonics Fundamentals© for Tutors is the base of our training options and is a beginning level training course in the Orton-Gillingham approach. Phonics Fundamentals© for Tutors is offered at our office locations and online multiple times throughout the year. Enrollment in the training course requires an interview and is dependent upon course availability.
